Is the Internet the Greatest Modern Invention?
37 per cent of Brits say internet is greatest modern invention
"The Internet has been named the greatest modern invention according to the results of a nationwide poll released by the Intellectual Property Office. Taking 37% of the vote, it beat other more recent innovations like the mobile phone and mp3 player to the top spot.
The study, by the Intellectual Property Office, also revealed that the divide between the sexes is still alive and well. While the washing machine liberated British women from domestic drudgery in the 50s, it’s still as important 60 years later, taking second place in the poll (14%). In contrast, ...... Why do us Brits find it so difficult to share?
Just a quick post here on what is quite apparent on the world wide web today between people or specifically inventors in the states and those of us here in the UK. It seems we for some reason are either to scared to share thinking that the only way you can share is by giving your own ideas away, or were just too bloody selfish.
I see forum after forum with inventors sharing and helping each other all over the US. They have realise the importance of a united community and they understand for the most part that one can be in the presence of like minded people, ask or give advice without having to give your game away as InventMe put's it. Not only that but how many mistakes would i have avoided if only i had people will to share their experiences with me when i first got involved with patents. I hope the administrators of this forum will keep a tight grip on this forum to make sure it stays professional and most importantly that it stays relevant. I for one will do what i can to help out. Come on Brits, lets stand united and lend a helping hand to one another. Id like to think most inventors are not selfish people, so how about it, let's share our experiences and allow other to learn from our mistakes.

Closing the Innovation Gap
Since this forum seems surprising adult, i though id like to mention a truly good book on the topic of invention which i had read recently.
The book mentioned above is by Judy Estrin
McGraw Hill Professional 272 pages
ISBN 9780071499873 $27.95
I found this book to be really insightful in that i think most inventors are not really sure of the entire process behind that initial though of an idea or invention. If I may, Id like to recommend it to the forum users, well to those who still read books anyway.

Should i feel guilty about inventing Weapons
I just really wanted to ask if anyone has any opinion about this because no one ever seems to talk about it. The fact is i love the idea of inventing military devices, because in my mind there is nothing more satisfying than working on devices of such importance and making sure they are as efficient as possible. Should i feel guilty about inventing devices that could ultimately be responsible for death by their very design. How does anyone else feel about this?
It doesn’t bother me at all, i just really want to find out what people, or fellow inventors views are about it.

This is the general section so i figured id let you all know about well known Playmobil's German inventor Hans Beck has died at 79year old. (Guardian Article)

"
• Created in 1974 in response to high plastic prices from oil crisis
• More than 2bn of the 7.5cm-tall dolls have been sold worldwide
The German inventor of Playmobil toys, which became an instant success when they hit the market 35 years ago, has died at the age of 79.
Hans Beck, a furniture maker and model enthusiast, came up with the toy in 1974 after being asked to create a new and collectible play concept. It was initially suggested he might work on a range of cars. Instead Beck came up with the dolls and earned himself a place in toy history.
He worked according to his motto "no horror, no superficial violence, no short-lived trends", the Brandstätter Group, owners of Playmobil, said in a short statement.
Beck created a whole fantasy world of figures with moving arms and legs that bend at the hip, wear snap on clothes, and continue to capture the imagination of children all over the world.
More than 2.2bn figures have been produced and sold in over 70 countries. At 7.5cm tall, and promoted as "ideal for a child's grip", the figures are meant to represent real life average adult height of 175cm (5ft 7ins).

Here's why we started the UK Inventors Forum and this Blog
As inventors it seems you can find a ton of information on the web about inventing and even more from people who say they can do this and they can do that for you the inventor. They say send us your stuff, pay us this and we'll do that and we'll do this. Of course most of them are total chancers and only a few of them are actually capable of what they say they can do. Often times some services are just simply not even required, but they'll make you think they are, and so there you again, spending some more money on an invention that could be nothing or it could be brilliant, but it aint going nowhere.
So then you go online and you start searching for advice, and all you get is more hot air, so you type in the word forums or message boards and all you get are US based forum. So now what?
Well that’s why we decided to start this forum. So that those of us who have been there and done can help others who are starting out, and so we here in the UK can have a nice little forum where like minded people can share and discuss the sort of things we inventors do. So welcome, take your shoes off and come into our house. Our house is your house.
So this forum is work in progess and we hope to slowly bute sure add more and more useful information or resources to all our readers and users.
